I, for one, am sick and tired of metricing myself. It created such levels of anxiety that I stopped being able to sleep, worried about my resting heart rate and sleep interruptions. Every activity I had to report to the little GOD on my wrist and deal with all the reminders to “close my rings”! Jettisoning all that metric stuff at least made me happy
I get it Tim. My husband never has and never will metricise. But is still fit and active. I have accepted that I am nerdish and love to challenge myself but there are many ways to age consciously. Thanks for joining the conversation.
Over my life time I've found it unproductive to compare myself with others, but as I've aged I've found there are some benefits to it. Ha Ha! My visits to friends in the nursing home assure me I'm better off mentally and physically than a lot of people my age. When my new friend at cardio rehab leaned over while we were on the Nustep recumbent bikes and bragged, "I'm going to be 71 this summer, I replied, "That's so great. I'm going to be 80 in August." And I felt a sudden surge in energy. But then I went to a half Ironman this weekend to watch my nephew and 2000 other super-humans. I could hardly get out of bed the next morning after oh & ahing over them for hours. I've observed I'm happily aging somewhere between bedridden and 60 mile bike rides. Enjoyed your article, Robyn. It's good to think about how to stay fully alive as we age.
Great to hear from you Jan. I get it. When Frank and I feel a little bit off, we just head to the shopping centre, sit and people watch for a bit and leave feeling that we have nothing to complain about and get on with it.
I needed to see this today. I've been feeling down with knee issues bone on bone arthritis and torn meniscus. I keep going physical therapy etc. Knee replacements I've been advocating for. Still it's so difficult some days. Mentally l.

Hi Robyn,
This article was perfectly timed for me - it relates to the conversation I am having with myself currently.
Glad it resonated Janice. It's an ongoing conversation for us as we age.
Much food for thought here. We benefit from conscious decisions.
You are right Brenda. It’s about conscious decisions that are right for us.

I hear you Jane. Are you considering knee replacements?
Yes. I've been pushing for them for years. I've had pt , gel injections etc. For over 3 years now. Getting another opionion
Second opinion sounds like a plan. Good luck!
Thanks, Robyn!
